A Thousand Peaks in Competition-Lu Xiujing

Exhibited works:

At 15:00 on August 7, 2022, "A Thousand Peaks in Competition – Lu Xiujing's Exhibition of Chinese Painting Sketches" opened at Qianjia Study. Over 40 new works, covering figures, landscapes, flowers and birds, collectively present Lu Xiujing's latest exploration achievements in the field of ink and color in recent years. These works stem from the feelings of the heart; they are not only the integration of emotion and scenery, but also the manifestation of mental state and temperament, and even more the spontaneous expression when facing nature. In terms of landscape painting, he traces back to Shi Tao and Shi Xi, then absorbs the strengths of Huang Binhong, Gu Kunbo, Lu Yanshao and others, and is skilled in learning from nature. However, he dares to break through established methods. With profound traditional heritage and accomplishments, he engages in dialogue with the forms and implications of the 20th-century Western visual art revolution, finding an expressive context that integrates with the composition principles of Chinese painting in abstraction and construction. Through his own efforts, he has made contributions to the innovation of Chinese painting in the 20th century.

An art symposium for the exhibition was also held on site. Hosted by curator Geng Xianglong, the attending artists and collectors spoke enthusiastically about the exhibition and Mr. Lu's artistic creation. The atmosphere was lively, and they all spoke highly of Mr. Lu's innovative exploration in the field of Chinese painting, as well as the exhibition environment of Qianjia Study, the venue for this exhibition.

In recent years, Mr. Lu Xiujing has been committed to innovating colors and exploring picture composition. While upholding the traditional concepts of color and ink as well as the artistic conception in Chinese painting, he has extensively absorbed and drawn on elements from the works of Eastern and Western art masters, borrowing from the past to open up new horizons and embracing diverse influences. At the same time, he has pursued the integration and reference between traditional color-ink relationships and Western color theory, aiming to expand the color innovation in Chinese painting—especially exploring the matching relationships between colors, and between color and ink. This effort serves to enhance the diversity of color application in Chinese painting and enrich the visual effect of the works.
